This award recognises those who demonstrate excellence in the provision of effective and client-focused support services, and who consistently display the WCHN values of Compassion, Respect, Equity, Accountability and working Together for Excellence in the way they behave and interact with our patients, clients, partners, and each other.

WINNER:

Di Smith-McCue

As Director of Consumer and Community Engagement, everything Di does is to ensure everyone who accesses WCHN services feels welcome, included and involved in their own healthcare journey. Di works to ensure the consumer voice is heard at every level and has introduced reporting structures for feedback to help the Network implement changes. Changes include creating consumer groups, food provisions in parent rooms and increased disability access.

Kory Horwood

Patient care is at the forefront of everything that Orthopaedic Clinical Nurse Consultant, Kory does. Kory runs a weekly ‘K-Wire Clinic’ which successfully removes wires from children’s fractures without the need for a general anaesthetic, as is required in many other hospitals. Kory is a great communicator and has collaborated with multiple hospital departments to develop multidisciplinary pathways and models of care, including spinal, ED, anaesthetic, nursing and Allied Health staff and Bloodsafe.

Forensic Medical Team – Child Protection Services

Champions in the field of forensic medicine, this team advocate for the physical and emotional safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people. Their important and challenging work includes engaging consumers who have been through traumatic experiences, providing support to their carers and families, while navigating complex social circumstances within a child protection framework. They provide leading health care with the aim to reduce long-term impacts of family and domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and ensure they have a better quality of life.
