Aboriginal employment and engagement

Our Network is committed to increasing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce through the development and implementation of the WCHN Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2026: Discovering Potential, Growing Together and the Aboriginal Workforce Action Plan 2026. You can view our Plan here.

We recognise the disadvantage suffered by Aboriginal peoples within Australia and the research which substantiates that Aboriginal people suffer lower outcomes relating to health, education and employment across Australia.

We are committed to reducing the gap and creating equity in the selection process to acknowledge such disadvantage. Our aim is to ensure that Aboriginal people including women, babies, children, young people and their families and communities have the right to access health care services in a safe and nurturing environment where their culture, community, spiritual identity and traditional ownership of the land is supported and respected by the people who will care for them.

To achieve better employment outcomes for Aboriginal people, we actively use the SA Public Sector Aboriginal Employment Register to access Aboriginal people who may be interested in working with us. If you are interested, and have registered on this register, please feel free to contact us. If you are not registered, click the link above and follow the instructions provided.

Please speak to our Aboriginal Workforce Strategist on (08) 8161 8574 to have a chat about opportunities.

SA Health Aboriginal Employment Pool

In addition to the whole of Public Sector Aboriginal Employment Register, SA Health has established an Aboriginal Employment Pool to help strengthen its Aboriginal workforce. It is designed to provide you with an opportunity to put yourself forward to be considered for roles that may become available across SA Health. SA Health have established this pool in an effort to support Aboriginal people into employment within the South Australian health sector.

The Aboriginal Employment Pool is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. If you are interested in working at SA Health and improving outcomes for Aboriginal people, please consider applying.

The Women’s and Children’s Health Network is committed to using this pool to fill its vacancies where possible and therefore we would encourage you to complete an application and be part of this initiative. This enables us, as well as other Local Health Networks and other parts of SA Health to access your application and consider you for employment with us.

If you have any queries, please contact our Aboriginal Workforce team on Health.AboriginalWorkforceNetwork@sa.gov.au or check out the Fact Sheet which has all the information you need.
