Encompass. Nurses and families working together

Encompass: Nurses and families working together is a registered provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and provides disability related health supports.

Formerly known as the RN Delegation of Care Program (RNDCP), Encompass supports children and young people from birth to 18 years with complex health needs and disability to safely access community services such as pre-school, school, out of school hours care, childcare, community access programs, short-term accommodation and in-home supports.

While our name may have changed, our great team and the quality care we provide has not.

We also support young people aged up to 24 years as they transition to adult health services.

Encompass provides the same service to children and young people regardless of whether they are eligible for NDIS funding or not.

Encompass is the only NDIS provider linked to South Australia’s largest public health network for women, babies, children, young people and their families.

This puts us in the unique position to be able to provide holistic, integrated and individualised care from a diagnosis to transition to adult services.

As a public health service, we are driven by people not profit so you can rest assured your child’s care is our top priority.

Encompass in the Community

The Encompass Nursing team, in collaboration with the Home Enteral Nutrition Nurse Consultants (HENNS), is expanding community-based support for families. This program aims to provide a nursing support including parental education and in-home care, specifically focusing on procedures such as routine gastrostomy tubes (PEG) and nasogastric (NGT) changes.

Program benefits

The Encompass nursing team will facilitate the safe and efficient replacement of gastrostomy and nasogastric tubes. Eligible families now have the option to choose between attending a hospital or utilising the Encompass community service for routine device changes.

Increased accessibility

The Encompass nursing team increases access to services within the community, reducing potential barriers and improving overall healthcare accessibility. Families can choose a location that best suits their needs, eliminating the need for hospital visits for routine device changes. By increasing access to community services, the program aims to improve the convenience, timing, and overall satisfaction of routine device changes.

Scheduling an appointment

Families are encouraged to schedule an appointment with their Encompass Nurse two weeks prior to the scheduled change of their gastrostomy tube 'PEG' or one week for scheduled nasogastric ‘NGT’ changes. This allows for coordination and preparation for the device change.

Information for parents

As part of the Women’s and Children’s Health Network we can coordinate care for children with complex health needs with other ongoing healthcare services.

Our nurses work with children, young people and their families to complete a comprehensive health assessment and provide a Health Plan or Nursing Care Plan and relevant first aid plans.

We also provide individualised training to ensure the worker supporting your child is able to respond to their specific needs.

Encompass supports children and young people from across South Australia and encourages families located in regional areas to access our services.

Talk to your service provider or NDIS planner about including Encompass services in your NDIS Plan.

If your child has complex health needs, but is not eligible for the NDIS, contact Encompass for more information to see how the service may be able to assist.
