The Women’s and Children’s Health Network acknowledges Aboriginal people as the First Peoples and Traditional Custodians of Country throughout South Australia. Yarrow Place is a state-wide service. Outside of the metro area, we have professional social workers/clinicians as part of our Country Response Program. They are based in country regions with general hospitals to provide counselling support.

Regions covered by the Country Response Program include:

  • Whyalla
  • Riverland
  • Mt Gambier
  • Port Pirie
  • Murray Bridge

Our clinicians also provide outreach counselling services to surrounding areas. This includes face-to-face and phone counselling support.

Our services are free and confidential. We also provide training and education.

Our vision, purpose, values and goals

Our Vision – All people who have experienced a rape or sexual assault in country South Australia receive quality health care responses.

Our Purpose – Provide professional trauma informed specialist counselling to people who have experienced a rape or sexual assault. Assist community to respond from a victim’s focused approach to enhance safety, wellbeing and promote successful recovery for survivors in country regions.

Our Values – As per SA Health Values, we aim to ensure that Care and Kindness are embedded in all facets of the service.

The objectives of the Country Response Program are:

  • Strengthen counselling services in regions with general hospitals
  • Build and strengthen community’s capacity to confidently and appropriately provide relevant support to victims/survivors of sexual assault
  • Continue improving forensic care response, including training and mentoring of forensic nurses in the regions
  • Work collaboratively and in partnership with key community stakeholders to address the issues of sexual violence in the community.

People who have been recently sexually assaulted in the country can receive medical care by a doctor or nurse and collection of forensic evidence for people who are considering legal action. The Riverland, Mount Gambier, Whyalla and Port Lincoln hospitals or GP services can provide this. To gain access to this service, please contact the appropriate hospital, the police or Yarrow Place on 1800 817 421 for further information.
